How Teams Are Formed
Grades 4–6 are recreational teams, built to be as evenly matched as possible. Grades 7 and 8 each field a competitive team: after evaluations, players are selected for the competitive team and the rest are placed on one or more recreational teams. Grades may be combined to field a team.
Practices
Twice per week, except the grade 7 and 8 competitive teams which practice three times. Usually 90 minutes, starting anywhere from 2:30 PM after school to 7:30 PM for older grades.
Where: St. Matthew Father Noble Center (large gym)
All of our coaches are volunteers, so practice schedules are arranged to fit their work schedules as best we can.
Grades 7 and 8 do not practice on Fridays, to avoid conflicting with ski club.
The final practice schedule is set in the second week of November.
Uniforms & Equipment
Jerseys and shorts are provided by St. Matthew.
Your athlete brings: The full uniform must be returned to St. Matthew at the end of the season.
Games & Locations
Saturdays or Sunday afternoons and evenings. A game lasts about an hour. Games start in December and the schedule is released a few days before the first game.
Where: Any of the Columbus Diocese gyms — locations vary from game to game.
Tournaments: Grades 5–8 play in an end-of-season tournament at varying locations. Fourth grade plays regular-season games during tournament weeks.
Parent volunteering is required
Parents of all players are required to volunteer for admissions or concessions. Contact your coach for opportunities.
