Cheerleading
Grades 2–8 · Three squads
Sign-ups close August 20.
Cheerleading is organized into three squads so coaching is age-appropriate and skills build year over year. Athletes cheer at football games and school pep rallies.
Eligibility
Girls, Grades 2–8. Your student must be enrolled in one of the following:
- St. Matthew School
- St. Matthew PSR classes
- Church of the Resurrection PSR classes
- Other Columbus Diocese programs are eligible under certain circumstances
Playing another sport? Soccer has no conflict with Cheerleading. Volleyball or Cross Country may create practice or game conflicts, but these can usually be worked out with the coach.

How Teams Are Formed
Three squads by grade: Mini Mustangs (grades 2–3), Junior Mustangs (grades 4–5), and Mustang Elite (grades 6–8).
Practices
Every Wednesday, starting at 2:35 PM immediately after school. Release times are staggered: Mini Mustangs 4:00 PM, Junior Mustangs 4:30 PM, Mustang Elite 5:00 PM.
Where: St. Matthew
The season intentionally starts in September so the squads can take part in the St. Matthew Open House and recruit new cheerleaders first.
Uniforms & Equipment
Registration includes the cheer uniform, uniform briefs, hair bow, team cheer t-shirt, Soffe shorts, and poms. Uniforms are handed out at the start of the season along with the Parent & Athlete Handbook.
Games & Locations
Squads cheer at football games and pep rallies. The full game schedule is given to families in the Parent & Athlete Handbook at the first practice rather than posted online.
Where: St. Matthew and away football venues.
