Lacrosse is a fast-paced spring sport that builds confidence, teamwork, and athletic skill. St. Matthew fields both boys and girls teams for local league play in the Columbus area.
No prior experience is required. New players are welcome and returning players keep building each season.
Eligibility
Boys & Girls, Grades 1–8. Your student must be enrolled in one of the following:
- St. Matthew students and parishioners first and foremost
- Church of the Resurrection PSR students may be eligible
- Students from other schools within the diocese may be eligible under certain circumstances

How Teams Are Formed
The Diocese of Columbus does not currently run lacrosse, so St. Matthew organizes teams for local league play. Teams are grouped by dual grade levels: 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. Grades may be combined as needed to field complete teams.
Practices
Two or three times per week, about 90 minutes. Start times range from 2:30 PM after school to later in the evening.
Where: St. Matthew Athletic Fields, weather permitting. In early spring practices may move indoors to the PAC or another indoor location.
All of our coaches are volunteers, so practice schedules are arranged to fit their work schedules as best we can.
The final practice schedule is set in late February.
Uniforms & Equipment
Uniforms are provided by St. Matthew.
Your athlete brings: Boys must have a lacrosse stick, helmet, mouth guard, cleats, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and a protective cup. Mini Mustangs (grades 1–2) can rent pads through the Athletic Association.
Games & Locations
Games begin in late March.

Where to find equipment
Buying locally lets players try gear on for proper fit. Borrowing from family, friends, or neighbors is strongly encouraged — many returning players have gently used gear available.
