Track & Field is a great way for students of any ability to stay active and be part of a team. Whether your child loves to run, jump, throw — or just wants to try something new — Mustang Track welcomes them.

No tryouts. No experience required.

Eligibility

Boys & Girls, Grades K–8. Your student must be enrolled in one of the following:

  • St. Matthew School
  • St. Matthew PSR classes
  • Church of the Resurrection PSR classes
  • Other Columbus Diocese programs are eligible under certain circumstances

How Teams Are Formed

The Mustang Track & Field team competes against other diocese teams. Competition is divided by age group: grade 3 and under run intersquad, then grades 4/5, grades 6/7, and grade 8.

Practices

Grades 4–8 practice three times per week, Monday–Thursday with optional Saturdays, 6:00–7:30 PM weekdays and 10:00–11:00 AM Saturdays. Grades K–3 practice Mondays and Thursdays, 5:30–6:30 PM, starting March 23.

Where: Gahanna Middle School South track for grades 4–8. Grades K–3 are at St. Matthew on Mondays and Gahanna Middle School South on Thursdays.

Practice days may change during the season based on track availability.

Uniforms & Equipment

Official team singlets are provided by St. Matthew.

Your athlete brings: Comfortable athletic shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Games & Locations

Grades K–3 run intersquad meets on Sunday afternoons with some weekday events. Grades 4–8 compete at Saturday meets — grades 4–5 in the morning, grades 6–8 in the afternoon.

Where: Gahanna Middle School South for grades K–3. Grades 4–8 travel to venues that may include St. Francis DeSales, Bishop Hartley, and Central Crossing.

Tournaments: The season builds toward the Diocese Relay Championships in late April and the Diocese Track & Field Championships in early May.
